Biography

Dr. Butters obtained her BSc from the University of Alberta in 2003, followed by a DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. After graduation, she joined a busy private equine practice as an associate veterinarian, and obtained status as a Fédération Equestre Internationale Permitted Treating Veterinarian and Official Veterinarian for Showjumping and Three Day Eventing. Alyssa has always had a strong interest in teaching, and served as DVLC Practicum Rotation Coordinator for the practice and a Community Mentor for UCVM students until her departure from regular clinical practice in December 2018. She then worked as a locum veterinarian before beginning graduate studies in epidemiology at the UCVM. Outside of her veterinary commitments, she also co-manages a commercial cow-calf beef operation with her husband.
